About Us

Maintaining Healthy Behaviour Initiative is a brain child of Center for the Right to Health under the SHiPs for MARPs Project, holistic HIV/AIDS intervention targeting female sex workers, men who have sex with men and people who inject drugs.

Maintaining Healthy Behaviour Initiative (MhBI) is a health advocacy/support non- profit community based organization created for young people by young people especially the most at risk populations in Lagos. Our mission is to promote the wellbeing and advocate for MARPs (MARM, PWID AND FSW) through capacity building, research and documentation to achieve a sustainable behavior change. MBI envisions an empowered MARPs community in the context of the right to health.Establishing a MARPS Community Based organization is one of the core deliverable for Centre for the Right to Health who has the mandate to work with People who inject drugs (PWID) and Most at Risk Men (MaRM) under the five year SHiPS project. Achieving this objective is the first line plan for sustainability of the project and to increase the force of dedicated organization working for high number of teeming MARPs  in Lagos. Centre for the Right to Health Lagos under the SHiPS project have taken concrete steps in initiating for the establishing of the CBO among PWID and MaRM through advocacy meetings with stake holders at the community and local government level, community dialogue, joint MARPs interactive forum and CBO strengthening meetings. There has been a strong positive indication that the proposed CBO establishment had received a warm welcome by the MARPs  and other stakeholders in the  community since the project intensive phase started. Center for the Right to Health as the parent organization of MBI envisions a Nigeria in which quality health-care is affordable and accessible; where patients are treated with dignity and their human rights respected irrespective of gender, age, social status or disease condition. Its mission is to advocate for the full realization of the right to health in Nigeria and to promote respect for ethics and human rights in health-care policies and practices, especially for vulnerable groups such as People Living With HIV/AIDS, women, youths and children.
